Myofascial Release

Myofascial Release is a safe and effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure to Myofascial connective tissue restrictions to reduce pain and restore motion.

How is it treated?

Myofascial Release is a hands-on therapy which aims to directly change and improve health of the fascia, relax the muscle and restore function.

What does treatment involve?

Therapists are taught to 'feel' fascial restrictions and be guided, through that 'feel', slowly into the fascial network. The MFR technique is very different to that of massaging muscles, tendons and the ligaments of the body. The techniques are applied calmly, slowly and gently with most patients enjoying a relaxing experience aiming to ease their symptoms. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.

In Summary

The MFR therapist not only takes in to consideration what they see in the patient's postural assessment but works directly with what they feel and sense from palpating and treating the body.

Even though the patient may not feel a great deal during treatment, the experienced therapist can detect through, the fascial restrictions, where they need to direct their treatment and subsequently feels the release of those restrictions during the session.
